The sanctuary eco-system is a unique habitat of mix tropical dry-evergreen forests, open grasslands and tidal mudflats, the only of its kind in the country, specially the single largest stretch of the unique and dry evergreen forest in the Country. Nearly half of the sanctuary is under thick evergreen forest and dense thickets with about 154 species of medicinal plants in the dry-evergreen forest. The sanctuary is a rich gene pool of dry- tropical species. The grasslands located in the southern part of the sanctuary natural habitat of the blackbuck.
